Appearance:Ethan has a combination of hard and soft features. He has dark brown hair that he always keeps short (he thinks longer hair looks ridiculous on boys). His eyes are very interesting; they are a light green, but if you look close, you can see small streaks of dark blue running through them. They say eyes are the window to the soul--this is definitely true for Ethan. You can see humor, anger and utter lack of interest by just looking at his eyes. When he is talking to people, his face is generally neutral, with a hovering smile, but the true way he feels can be seen in his eyes. As mentions, he always seems to have a smile hovering about his face, if a small one is not already there. He laughs, yes, but it is usually soft and relatively quiet.
Ethan isn't a big fashion buff. He doesn't like elaborate outfits or taking much time on figuring out what to look like. Good, right, because he is a boy. He's a big fan of just plain tees, usually with a jacket thrown over it. Sometimes he does just like a good shirt and tie, but causal style. He likes jeans and sneakers. Sandals aren't really his thing, he finds them extremely annoying and slightly tacky. He also isn't a big fan of shorts or those weird boys that wear skinny jeans. You could say that Ethan is a fan of simplicity when it comes to his appearance.
Personality:All his life, Ethan has been relatively quiet and calm. There are sometimes where he isn't, but we're talking generally here. He thinks that loosing ones temper is a complete waste of time and usually ends in regret. He feels that if something goes wrong, look at it calmly, take a deep breath and think it through. He's not like a passivist hippie, mind you, but he just likes to be the reasonable one sometimes. He grew up in a very expressive family, so he often had to be the one to step back and see the logical side of things. Most of the time, he can also get other people to calm down and see it to, but it sometimes takes a lot of effort and patience on his part. That is one thing that can strain him, people being overly irrational. If he is trying to explain that something is clearly this and the other person will just not budge, he can get a little snippy. Ethan, however, is not a person who rants and raves when he is mad. Granted, sometimes he really wants to, but he's the kind of person that speaks through his teeth and breaths really deep when he is frustrated.
Ethan is friendly, mind you, but sometimes he would rather just sit back and have you come to him if you really want to be his friend. Ethan isn't particularly stuck-up, but he thinks sometimes putting out an effort to be a friend when it will end in nothing isn't necessarily worth it. Ok, sometimes he is a little stuck-up when it comes to choosing friends. But, hey, can't we all have a choice on who we want to have conversations with? He loves to read, so he just sticks to the books if he has nothing to do or nobody to speak to. He is perfectly happy with that.
You know those quiet kids that you don't bother to speak to but when you do you find they have this great sense of humor? That is Ethan. He can probably make you laugh, but he doesn't go out of his way to. He can easily recognize humor to in other people, though one of his greatest irritations is something who thinks dirty jokes and rude comments are funny. Ethan cares a lot about respecting people and making sure that people don't feel like dirt. So extremely rude and irritating people can make Ethan a bit mad.
Background:Ethan was born into a pretty wealthy family. They owned a large logging business in Golden, somewhere in Canada. After Ethan was born, his mother was told by the doctor that Ethan might be their only child. They had found something wrong in her body. They were surprised that she even had Ethan. This news hit his parents hard. They had wanted a large family. So they immediately turned their attention to their next option: adopting.
Ethan has a very interesting collage of brothers and sisters, throughout the years of adopting. Each adopted child was one year apart, all adopted in the newborn stage. Ethan's parents planned it like that, though they didn't have a set plan on who they were to adopt. Ethan's siblings consisted of two Asians, three Europeans, one African, two Americans and one other Canadian. Even though there were obvious differences, the siblings are close.
Though there are to be a lot of kids in the family, Ethan's parents never forgot how lucky they were to have Ethan, their very own kid. He wasn't spoiled, for they loved all the kids, but he did tend to get the upper hand sometimes. However, with his dad in the logging business and the kids still coming, Ethan had to take a lot of responsibility for his sibling, starting at a young age. His older brother authority helped him with the way he is today--calm and quietly dealing with problems.
When Ethan was fourteen, he was helping his little sister, a six-year-old Asian they named Kara, with her "grow the seed in a cup of dirt homework." Kara's seed was a little behind, with everybody in her class already having a sprout. Ethan came and told her that she just needed to keep watering it--but not too much--keep it in the sun, and give it love. (Ethan has always had a green thumb, as his mother says). When that didn't cheer her up, he put her on his lap, held the cup in one hand, and said, "Let's cheer it on." Little Kara put all her heart into chanting to the little seed. Ethan helped. Suddenly, there was a tingling in his palm. Then, a sprout poked out of the dirt. Kara clapped. The sprout kept growing. It grew into a ginormous sunflower (not what the seed was supposed to be). Ethan gasped and dropped the cup. Kara complained, but Ethan couldn't shake the fact that he had just done that.
Time went on--other things happened. He created buds on a dead tree in the middle of winter; He was mad at a kid and a tree root sprung out of the ground and tripped the kid; things like that. Finally, on his fifteenth birthday, he told his dad. He thought he was crazy. His dad just smiled. He told Ethan he did the exact same thing, and showed him by reviving the dead plant above the kitchen sink that his mother never remembered to water. One crazy thing after another, Ethan was packed and set for the Camp. Everybody was told it was an elite boarding school. Ethan was sad to leave his family, but he was very excited to learn more about his power.
He has been at the camp since.
